Corporate History

April 1947
Shimada Machinery was founded in Maruyama-cho, Gamagori City.
January 1957
Developed 4.5-shaku center lathes (1 shaku=0.33 meters) and started manufacture and sales.
May 1960
Relocated to a new office/factory in Fuso-cho, Gamagori City for business expansion. In addition to manufacture of center lathes, vertical/horizontal milling machines were developed and manufacture and sales started.
August 1962
The company was reorganized into a corporation, and Shimada Machinery Co., Ltd. was established.
September 1962
Developed the SC-6A model, Japan’s first 6-spindle automatic lathe.
March 1972
The SS-8 model (8-spindle automatic lathe) was developed and manufacture and sales started.
January 1974
The SC-6E model (6-spindle automatic lathe) was developed and manufacture and sales started.
November 1979
Developed the SC-6EH model (6-spindle automatic lathe) and began manufacture and sales.
February 1981
Sales of multi-spindle automatic lathes reached 1000 units.
October 1986
The CN-660 model (CNC 6-spindle automatic lathe) was developed and manufacture and sales started.
July 1990
The B6-27 model (CNC 6-spindle automatic lathe bar type) was developed and manufacture and sales started.
April 1993
Tokyo Branch Office was relocated to a new building.
March 1994
The 2SI-6/8 model (2-spindle 1NC lathe) was developed and manufacture and sales started.
February 1998
Sales of multi-spindle automatic lathes reached 3000 units.
March 1999
Established a new headquarters/factory in Mito-cho, Toyokawa City, and started full-scale operation.
July 2007
The B6-16 model for machining small-diameter workpieces (CNC 6-spindle automatic lathe bar type) was developed and manufacture and sales started, following the B6-32 model for machining large-diameter workpieces released in 2006.
October 2007
The 2SI-10/12 model (2-spindle 1NC lathe in 10/12-inch specifications) was developed and manufacture and sales started.
Jun 2011
4-spindle 2NC lathe (the HS4200 horizontal model and the VT4-350 vertical model) business was acquired from Kitagawa Corporation. The lineup of multi-spindle turning machines was completed with 2/4/6/8-spindle automatic lathes.
October 2014
The ISM-B6-27NC model (6-spindle automatic lathe bar type with C-axis milling function) was developed and manufacture and sales started.
January 2022
Masahiro Shimada assumed the position of President.
November 2022
The ST-32 model (3-spindle 2NC lathe) was developed and manufacture and sales started. The 2SI-8Mk-II model (2-spindle 1-turret lathe with Y-axis) was also developed. Plant 3 was built close to the main manufacturing plant and started operations.
September 2023
The company name was changed to SHIMADA Machine Tool Drives Co., Ltd.
April 2024
Multi-spindle automatic lathe business was acquired from Citizen Machinery Co., Ltd, and manufacturing of the Model MMA-16 was launched along with after-sales service for numerous models.
