Shimada Machine Tool Drives is a company that was founded in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture in 1947 by my grandfather. At that time, my grandfather did not have a clear management plan or his own brand of products, he just wanted to start his own company. This company was his first step towards the dream of fulfilling his desire to create and sell something. My grandfather was one of the many young people in Japan at that time who could dream and romanticize about their ambitions.

The opportunity for this company to make rapid progress came in 1962 when it developed the first 6-spindle lathe in Japan (referred to as a multi spindle automatic lathe). Where did my grandfather first see the machines that originated in Europe and were often used in mass production of metal parts in both North America and Europe since before and after World War II? Unfortunately, I am now unable to ask my late grandfather, the founder, about the elation he felt when deciding that he wanted to build his own machine, about the sense of achievement when he was successful in its development, and also about his excitement when he sold his first machine. However, because of this turning point in 1962, Shimada Machine Tool Drives and all of its employees were able to realize the originality and raison d'etre that we have today.

After more than 60 years since that time, we have continued to expand our product lineup with a multi spindle automatic lathe (6-spindle and 8-spindle lathes) mounted with NC equipment as well as spindle drum indexing type 2-spindle, 3-spindle, and 4-spindle NC lathes, and we have developed the automation and transfer technology to support these products.

All of these products are machine tools that have multiple spindles. Since a whole process can be divided into as many steps as the numbers of spindles, they bring value in terms of their ability to process in a shorter time than machines made by other companies. This value can then be offered to companies located throughout the world whose livelihood depends on producing parts .
